PUBLISHER'S CORNER

There are twisted timelines in my head. It was only yesterday I was raising my babies and hanging out with friends with our kids and making friendships that were lasting. It was the Krazy Glue of the '70s, bonding over learning how to mother, to wife, to bake bread, to breastfeed, to roll with life's waves.
It was yesterday and a lifetime, or two, ago. Still, it is hard to accept that the way some of us survived was in deep, dark, silent pain. One of our friend group, over the years, struggled to find his footing with his family, and it fell out from under him. He struggled to make peace with the demons his family unleashed on him and they latched on, releasing him into the void. He struggled to find a way to relate to his children and they lost him.
I learned over the summer he was living homeless in his car in a parking lot. Attempts by his family to get him out of his car and anywhere else failed.
I heard last night he finally made it out of his car, unresponsive. He's now getting comfort meds and his family is waiting to say goodbye. His health is what you would expect it to be after a few years of homelessness in his car and many more years before that, struggling for his sanity.
When we look at the homeless we can't see who they were, those who were loved and lost, haunted and manic and running from their pain and getting nowhere.

Prepare for a mild day marked by intervals of sun and clouds. Expect the temperature to climb to a high of 56. The winds will be gentle and changeable, so it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy the pleasant weather before the anticipated rain arrives tomorrow, which will be a relief given the ongoing drought.
