PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Being thankful is not the same as being grateful, but they go together in my mind.
Today we give "thanks" - mainly for a day off and an extravagant mostly predictable meal that is an American ritual.

Because there is more time today for most of us to pause and reflect, at least for me, the gratitude has time to sink in as well. And because it's the day after my birthday I'm feeling especially grateful because so many good people out there took a minute to wish me well.

It's overwhelming.

My gratitude list includes the usual suspects - my hubby Jim is at the top of the list and my kids are right up there, along with my family members and closest friends. But this work I do has given me an extended network of people to count as friends, all of whom have made a difference in my life just for being in it.

I am thankful for the opportunity to do what I love to do, which has very little to do with the news of the day; it's about trying to find it in me - and find the resources - to keep delivering reliable news and information to a community that I care about. Why?

Because it is important. It is what makes us feel like part of something bigger than ourselves.

It's all about connecting the dots of this life and, on days like this - when I can sit for a few minutes longer than usual to think it all through, I am thankful and overcome with gratitude.

Wishing you all so much love and peace on this Thanksgiving day.
