PUBLISHER'S CORNER

We had a wonderful night of fireworks - for the second time we were able to share the experience with a friend, Dona, who lives at Wall Street Tower. She has been a reader of the Ink Link for a long time, and kindly invited us to join her on the fifth-floor parking lot where there was a DJ spinning patriotic tunes. My sister was in town and able to join us this year on what would have been our mother's 106 birthday.

We spent the day together and ate some leftover cake and reminisced just a little bit about our mother, who art in heaven. We cooked some burgers and cheese sausage on the grill, a dinner that would have been approved by our mother, who enjoyed it whenever my dad cooked on the grill.

Mostly we enjoyed having this time together, the beauty of nature surrounding us as the sun set over the city. We soaked in the sparkle and she-bang of the fire show in the sky and, in our own way, thanked our mother for giving us life and giving us one another.

The Soapbox: Social Security is on the ballot. Trump wants to cut it.

Like many Granite Staters, I’ve worked hard and paid for decades into Social Security and Medicare. I earned these benefits and I’ll count on them in my retirement. But let’s be clear: Social Security and Medicare are under attack by Donald Trump and the extreme MAGA Republicans who are threatening to slash them.
