PUBLISHER'S CORNER

My dad in the midst of a self-portrait sometime in the mid-1940s, likely during or shortly after his time in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
My dad served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. I didn't get a lot of details from him about his time in the service - he had no war stories to tell. As soon as someone realized he was a talented artist, that's what he did - portraiture for the brass, mostly. I think he also created recruitment posters and such.

Although he didn't see any action, the military provided him with great benefits that served him well the rest of his life. It allowed him to continue his education and buy a house in the Philly suburbs, which solidified his future. He became an art teacher and moved into administration when the vo-tech high school opened near his home.

I'm grateful for all of those who served and sacrificed. I'm glad my dad dodged those bullets and never had to face the prospect of combat.

I would like to invite you to check out a series, In Service to America, on Nashua Ink Link - interviews with 19 veterans from the Nashua area.

Veterans Day Parade steps off here at 10:30 a.m.
