That, above, is the freedom I felt poking around Bluesky, like a ninja kitten.

I've been poking around Bluesky, an alternative to X/Twitter, Mastadon and Threads. And that was before I read that 1 million other people had found their way to the social media platform.

Can 1,000,001 people be wrong?

I'm just window shopping, for now. But after reading up on the company, which operates as a Public Benefit Corps - which I like - if I'm going to poke around anywhere, it might as well be here. I feel a little bit like I'm in a witness protection program. Nobody really seems to see me or notice me, and even if I said something, at least for now with so few followers, it's like I'm not even there.

Bluesky is framed by those who created it as a place for "modern social media and public conversation online to work more like the early days of the web, when anyone could put up a blog or use RSS to subscribe to several blogs. We believe this will unlock a new era of experimentation and innovation in social media. Researchers and communities will have the ability to jump in to help solve the problems social networks currently face, and developers will be able to experiment with many new forms of interaction."

So far, so good - I actually found my New York City teacher son's profile and admired photos of his beautiful flower garden. If that's not refreshing, I don't know what is.
