PUBLISHER'S CORNER

What do you call a Scarlet Tanager in Sheffield England? A rarity - apparently one of the little birds made an appearance in someone's backyard across the pond and it drew hundreds of avid birdwatchers. Why, you ask? Because they aren't native to the UK. Normally, the Scarlet Tanager stays in its lane, which is a straight north-south line between Maine an Ecuador. But thanks to October's hurricane-force winds, this little birdie was thrown off course.

“We left Exeter in Devon at 2 a.m. We got up here at first light. It’s near enough the furthest I’ve traveled [to see a rare species],” said birdwatcher Dave Stone, 75.

I love a good traveling bird story. But now I'm a little worried that this poor bird will feel lonely over there without any fellow tanagers. I hope the British birds are friendly.

“When we launched the Metallica Scholars Initiative, it really spoke to me. A collective goal of breaking the stigma of trade skills. Trade skills are vital to society, and what’s even more important is to support the many folks who are trying to create a career by learning and using these skills. I am so proud - we all are - to see how this program is changing lives by providing much-needed resources to empower students, and it’s great that we’re able to make our biggest grant yet to support these students and the future workforce. - "James Hetfield, Metallica
