PUBLISHER'S CORNER

You're looking at the map of wicked smaaht people. That's right, Massachusetts is No. 1 in this particular ranking of states by IQ (their average is 104.3 IQ). There is an interactive version of the map here if you don't believe me.

And, no offense to Massachusetts but when you have MIT and Harvard within state lines, well, I guess that could tip the genius scales a bit. I'd like to see an unweighted analysis of those Bay Staters.

And to be honest, I'm trying to be careful with my words here because New Hampshire ranks No. 2 on this map, with an average IQ of 104.2. There are plenty of people who would look around at their friends and neighbors and laugh uncontrollably at that thought.

While I never put much stock in such surveys, it's always fun to see the results. In this case it also appears that the states with higher IQs are known to invest more in education than some of the states that literally pale in comparison, at least on this map which ranges from white to dark purple. And that makes sense.

I'm all for education, and investing in it. I hope to see a map someday that's a solid dark purple across the board. That will feel more like something to celebrate, the United States of Opportunity.
