PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Today's Earth science lesson comes to you by way of my friend Al, who read it on Apple News, written by someone who got it from astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Al shared the story with me about how the tides don't actually move in and out but rather it's us - or more accurately the Earth - which is rotating in and out of one of two tidal bulges, so it seems like the tide is moving, but it's not. You can learn more about it here on Tyson's Star Talk video.

One thing Al and I agreed on is that the longer we live the more there is to learn, which is kind of strange because I feel like at this stage of life I should already know the basics, like this sort of thing. I'm grateful to Al for clueing me in and now I feel like spending a day on the beach to keep an eye on the tides.

Happy Monday!

Barbara Morse exhibition: Breathtaking art to support future art students

I was incredulous at the detail and realism Barbara achieved. And by minimizing color, she invited the viewer in to use their imagination and become almost a collaborator in the work.
