I love this story - a college student from Idaho who had learned about the inequity around the world when it comes to girls who miss out on education for lots of reason - including being shamed out of school for not having a uniform - solved the problem for students in the African nation of Togo with adjustable uniforms. You can read the full story here on CNN.
Basically there's some extra fabric built in to the hems and cords on the sides so the dresses can be adjusted to fit a girl for 3 years and up to 6 sizes - and then it can be handed down to another girl.

The non-profit is called SHE (Style Her Empowered) and the founder, Payton McGriff, is raising money through GoFundMe. Her business model, which was part of a college project, employs 20 seamstresses who work full-time between two factories - earning an average of 75 percent more than Togoâs minimum wage. They get benefits, including paid maternity leave, and free childcare.
When McGriff realized that most of the seamstresses had little formal education, she started a âpaid to learnâ program to help teach them basic literacy, math, and financial skills.
Stories like this remind me that there are solutions to all the world's problems. We need to boldly pursue them, support them and promote them.
