PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Another season of milkweed is coming to a close. My once fragrant monarch magnets are turning to seed and pretty soon the puffs will explode. It was about this time last year that I was lucky enough to find a chrysalis and watch it turn into a monarch.

As I was snooping around the fading weeks the other day, hoping to get lucky again, I came across a small herd of strange bugs - which I learned are milkweed bugs, They have a black heart outlined in red on their little backs and they don't really do much except mate, eat milkweed, lay eggs and die.

In researching them online I discovered there's a similar-looking bug called a "false milkweed bug." How dumb is that, to have a bug that looks enough like a milkweed bug that it could be mistaken for one but instead of getting its own name, it's name is basically "not a milkweed bug."

Nature is cool.

Scientists, not always cool. Especially those who give out dumb names to bugs. They need to seek professional help - from creative writers.

Blindlessly wandering around the building, soon to follow a purple-haired lady inside who I had recognized from before, just to see how the place was littered in scrap and timeless relics dating back to 30 years ago.
