PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Don't blame the messenger. That Halloween candy display wasn't my idea - it was at the supermarket last week. Too soon, Hannaford!

I mean we're nearly 3 months out from Trick-or-Treating. And I object not just because I'm standing on moral high ground, here. This means that "some" shoppers might be tempted to purchase Halloween candy in advance to beat the rush and then be tempted to eat it all and then have to rebuy it, and so on, causing some serious health concerns.

I get it.

We're in August now which means we're focused on getting the kids back to school within a few weeks and, once we go down that road it's just weeks before we have to consider decorating for the fall and consuming pumpkin-spice everything.

All I'm asking is that you let me have the "dregs of summer" aisle a little bit longer - 50% off all the bug spray and pool floats; BOGO Kingsford charcoal; one last end cap of marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers.
