PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Like.many of you, I've been watching the Summer Olympics - yes, the ones on TV, also.

But I'm referring to the grueling marathon of life that my hubby, Jim, has been in the thick of for his whole life - which as of today has been exactly 65 years.

These days he's mostly confined to our backyard olympic stadium. His routine includes watering the corn and whatever's left of the zucchini and tomatoes after Team Critters have their way with his crops. When he's done with the hose and watering can relay then it's into the pool for some competitive algae removal and bug skimming. In between there's weeding and mowing and rebuilding garden fences, taming wild grape and raspberry vines, and even processing rounds of dishes and laundry, as needed.

And as a dedicated cat daddy, he will dole out treats to Team Bella and Luna whenever they are running on empty.

He has always been my champion, with or without the swim goggles. His heart is so big that it gets in the way sometimes – he can't see anything but right and wrong - and yes, he is a bit judgy and no, he won't admit that. I guess it's because he's idealistic, which means he would like to live in a world where there is order and beauty and things are fair and sensible.

Instead, God gave him me and I'm a bit of a chaotic wild ride.

Happy Birthday, to the guy who doens't need an Olympic medal because he was born with a heart of gold.
