You are what you eat. Your health is your wealth. Food is medicine. All those old sayings have. been dancing around in my mind of late - perhaps it's a wisdom that comes with age - or with the body's urge to sabotage you the longer you're on earth.

This soup, if you haven't tried it, is everything I needed in one bowl (except for the side basket of garlic naan, which may not have been as medicinal but really, it's the perfect sidekick). The first time I had the soup, owner Suman Budha Magar recommended it for my health. It has lentils and tumeric and lemon and magic.
That was several weeks ago, and so when my head felt a little achy and my spirits were sort of dragging yesterday I decided the soup was in order. And that, along with some green tea, had me feeling like I just had a warm hug from a Nepalese grandma.
Afterward as I got back to work, I had a quick side conversation going on Facebook with a young friend of mine who is going through some health challenges right now, although she lives a few hundred miles away. That's the only good thing about Facebook - it keeps us connected. I reminded her that her health is her wealth, and lots of people are depending on her.
"Food is medicine," I told her, wishing I could deliver her some Dahl soup. I hope she takes my advice - "youth is wasted on the young" - but that's a different thread of old sayings for another day.

Starting today and continuing through Monday, a building swell and increasingly hazardous rip currents are expected as Hurricane Ernesto moves offshore along the East Coast. The high surf may create a hazard with breaking waves. Early next week, high astronomical tides could merge with the large surf, potentially causing a splash-over near the times of high tide on Sunday and Monday nights.
