PUBLISHER'S CORNER

It was a banner day for me - I got to reacquaint myself with Chicago, reconnect with some fellow journalists, and take in a Cubs game - a team I've never paid any attention to but boy, were their bats on fire last night.

I also got in so many steps - for me, breaking 10,000 is like hitting the lottery of fitness (and I did recently renew my vow to start paying more attention to my fitness.) So when I glanced at my Fitbit while taking in the ball game I was pretty shocked to see how many steps I'd already accrued. And that was way before I walked down all 10 million steps that lead up to the Wrigley nosebleed seats, and down several Chicago city blocks until we landed in the right spot for our Uber.

And it was a great ride, too - our driver had a new Tesla so I got to see all the incredible features, like a giant screen that shows you every human life form in your vicinity, which could also be a distraction. But for us, it was just really cool.

And then it was up another million steps or so, to the parking garage where my friend Denise had parked - we were hitting the road to Racine County, Wisconsin, where she lives. I spent the night at her place for the night - saved a few bucks on the hotel.

A great horned owl was positioned outside Denise's house, which provided a pleasant soundtrack to what really was a banner day.
