PUBLISHER'S CORNER

My autumn crocuses are blooming. They're hot pink in a white room, pizzazz on a brown paper bag. They are vivid and intoxicating - and I think, poisonous. That's right, Wikipedia says they are part of the colchicum family, all of which are poisonous.

I'm not planning on picking or eating them; just taking in their lethal beauty.

But I guess it's as good a reminder as any that things aren't always what they seem, a thing of beauty might be deadly; stop and smell the roses when you can, but don't eat the autumn crocuses.

Proof is just noise

Proof is just noise

Today, our big trip flips. This isn’t just pretty deserts or cold coastlines anymore. This is Africa the way every kid imagines it. Wide-eyed, lions-on-the-savanna Africa. And in some freak stroke of genius (luck, really), we’ve saved the best for last. Cake after dinner. Ice cream, maybe even sprinkles.
