It's great to be back from Chicago.
|
I'm going to cut to the chase.

- If you missed your weekend eNewsletter, thank you. It was the beginning of an experiment to not send it out on Saturday and Sunday. And while I'm glad you missed it because that means we've become a part of your world, I hope you will allow me to take the weekends off - at least for the time being. Rick Gordon kindly provided a "weekend weather outlook" although I didn't get to post it until Saturday because - I was distracted by being at a conference in Chicago. I'll do better this weekend. But the good news for me is that I did get to unplug a little bit more than usual. "Week ends" are supposed to be a time to recharge and refocus after ending a week of work and I'm curious to see how that feels. Not sure when it happened but at some point our in-boxes became a 24-7 portal to a work day that never ends. We will still be posting stories on the weekend and you you haven't yet, please bookmark our site and check in. Otherwise I will be smelling roses, whiling away the hours, enjoying the great outdoors, catching up on all my favorite night spots and possibly thinking about work - but trying not to lift a work finger. We'll see how that goes.
- One of the things I learned at last week's LION Publishers Conference was that it's more important than ever for publishers like me to listen to readers like you - everything is changing and making sure I'm delivering what you need and want is the only way I stay relevant. I'm all ears. Feel free to email me any time at publisher@inklink.news. I love to hear from you. Also look for an announcement coming soon for opportunities to gather in the wild to talk about our city and what your idea of news is.
- Tomorrow is voting day in Manchester. It's a primary election which means you will decide who gets on the November ballot. Plan to go to the polls and be heard. We are one of several news outlets that have participated in a Youth Voting Guide. If you or someone you love is youthful enough to have questions about the voting process, please share this link. And the good news is, whether you're young or old - or somewhere in the middle - we're providing you with a ward-by-ward voters guide so you can brush up on all the candidates that will be on Tuesday's ballot. Click here or find the link below.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (21-40, 51-78) dropped their Saturday contest to the Portland Sea Dogs (39-23, 75-56) in six and a half innings, 7-1. A sudden gust of winds and rain delayed Friday’s game amidst the top of the seventh inning, which was later declared a final game.Â

It was February, 2020. The COVID pandemic had affected people everywhere. The world was “locked down.” Offices emptied out so people could work from home. Some people worked different hours. Some people weren’t working at all. It was a strange time.Â
It was during this time that both Joe and Anne discovered each other, playing on opposite sides of the same on-line video game, on opposite sides of the globe. The game is called State of Survival.

A few nights ago, Rob and I went all out, dropping a chunk of change on a seafood dinner at a place perched 500 yards off the South Atlantic. Jetty 1905. The restaurant sat on a rickety wooden pier, swaying ever so slightly with the ocean, like the sea was gently reminding us who actually runs the show around here. …

As a firefighter in Manchester, I’ve been on the frontlines of this crisis working to help people while Cinde Warmington has been on the other side of this fight making money. It’s time she took some accountability for her actions.
