PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Yesterday's Google Doodle was brought to you by s'mores as an homage to the campfire treat that I was introduced to decades ago during my brush with Girl Scouts. Fitting, since they were likely an invention of those notorious campfire-loving cookie-selling gals back in 1925. The article explaining the anniversary mentions that they are a seasonal treat reliant on outdoor fire pits and grills to get the marshmallows just the right shade of brown.

However, Jim has been enjoying end-of-summer s'mores without lighting one match and it's likely I've created a s'mores monster.

I just put the graham crackers on a plate, stick a piece of chocolate on the cracker and pop a marshmallow on top. Then, 20 seconds of microwaving - enough time to smear some crunchy peanut butter on the other half of the cracker - and then I smush it all together.

Oh sure, the marshmallow lacks the crispy brown flame-kissed crunch. But I don't think Jim missed it - he's just happy to have s'more s'mores.
