PUBLISHER'S CORNER

Now you see it, now you see something else. That was the feeling I had when I cut through the old "Strand Theatre" walkway on Hanover Street. As I stepped on the new Red Oak tiles I said to myself, "Now that's different."

It may be that I'm so familiar with the Red Oak logo it was hard to remember if it had been that way all along. But no, something in my head and heart said that it was not the Mandela effect but rather my not-yet-addled brain picking up on the change.

My knee-jerk reaction was that change is hard. The Strand tiles were like a whisper from the past lingering on a block that is constantly changing. But in fairness, Red Oak has really upped their game with developing not only the eye-catching apartments across from Market Basket but also the renovation of the building just across the street from Opera Block, and if they want to rebrand the tiles, it goes with the territory.

Change is hard, but as my hubby says, it's also good.

New Hampshire renters were cost-burdened by housing at higher rates than homeowners in 2023

Renters are more likely to be younger, to live in older housing units than owners, to be Granite Staters of color, and to have fewer years of formal education. Trends since 2021 suggest that renter median incomes are growing at slower rates than homeowner incomes, which may further contribute to income inequality between Granite Staters who own their homes compared to those who do not.
