The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted Inexpedient to Legislate (ITL) – an unfavorable motion – on HB 1822 on January 22, relative to reporting of civil immigration detentions by state, county, and local law enforcement and correctional facilities.

Auburn Police Chief Charles “Chip” Chabot said he signed the agreement on Jan. 6, 2026.  The issue was not put before the police commission, he said, because as “police chief it falls under my purview.”

On Thursday, December 4th Governor Kelly Ayotte made a visit to the 211 NH call center where she had an opportunity to connect with the team answering over 70,000 inquiries from New Hampshire residents annually. Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais also joined the group for a tour.
