MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ A homeless panhandler who wouldn’t take no for an answer gracefully from a Dunkin Donuts customer was arrested Dec. 28, charged with disorderly conduct and violation of bail conditions.

Jamie Smith, 31, was on probation from a prior arrest charging him with disorderly conduct on Dec. 23, police said. Part of his bail conditions required him to “keep the peace and be on good behavior.”

According to police at about 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 28 Smith allegedly approached a customer leaving the Dunkin Donuts, 271 Granite St., and askedย for money. When the customer refused to give Smithย any money, he allegedlyย began hitting theย windshield of the customerโ€™s vehicle.

Police were called and when they arrived found Smith sitting on the steps leading to the coffee shop parking lot.

Officers spoke with the store manager who explained there have been numerousย complaints from customers in reference to aggressive panhandlers outside their store.ย The manager then pointed out the window to Smith as someoneย who frequently harasses customers. The manager asked police if they could remove Smith from the property and inform him he wasย trespassing.

Officers then informed Smith that Dunkin Donuts management wanted him removed from the property. Smith refused to comply with the officerโ€™s repeated request to leave the property. Smith was then arrested for disorderly conduct, police said.
