MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police had a busy weekend – including a Friday night pedestrian accident involving a 6-year-old; a robbery with assault on Saturday night outside a local convenience store; and a “shots fired” call Sunday evening, among the many other calls for service throughout the weekend.
In addition to the calls for service, police also conducted two citywide Snow Emergencies which concluded Monday morning. In total, 153 vehicles were towed and more than 60 parking tickets were issued.
But first, a “help wanted” plea from police, who are looking for volunteers to assist with the care of their Mounted Unit horses. Applicants must be at least 18-years of age, have prior experience with horses and possess an overall knowledge of barn and stable duties.
Nights, weekends and holidays are required and a background investigation will also be completed prior to acceptance. Please bear in mind that volunteers are not allowed to ride the horses. If you have any interest, please contact Officer Marc Lachance at mlachance@manchesternh.gov.
Friday night pedestrian accident
On February 13 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Officer Guy Kozowyk responded to the area of 537 Wilson St. for a crash involving a six-year old victim. The child had allegedly darted in front of an oncoming vehicle operated by Sean Cullen, 29, of Manchester. According to the report, Cullen had noticed several children across the street before the 6-year-old girl ran in front of him. He told police he was unable to stop in time and struck the child, resulting in minor, non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to an area hospital and released to her father a short time later. The operator was not cited for any motor vehicle infraction.
Man jumped and robbed, left with broken nose outside N&N Express
On February 14 an alleged crime victim contacted police and told Officer Ian Fleming that he was jumped by four people after leaving N & N Express, 230 Lowell St, just after 11 p.m.
According to the 21-year-old victim, he was assaulted by four people – three of them were described as Hispanic males, average height and weight, dressed in dark winter style clothing, and one was a female, whom the victim was unable to describe. The victim told police he believed they were traveling in a black Honda Accord with Massachusetts registration. He did not know the subjects and claimed the physical force used caused a broken nose, which resulted in hospital care.
The assailants took the victim’s pack of cigarettes, iPod, and wallet which included an assortment of credit cards, a driver’s license and $140.
Gunshots fired Sunday on Amherst Street
At about 10:40 p.m. on Feb. 15 police detectives responded to Lincoln and Amherst streets to investigate reports of several gunshots being fired in the area.
Officer Kevin Jusza was the first on scene and following his initial investigation, police closed down an section of the 300 block of Amherst Street.
Detectives and patrol officers spoke with several people who told police someone fired a handgun at a vehicle as it drove off. Police also determined, based on interviews, that two additional rounds were fired in the area shortly before police arrived on scene.
