MANCHESTER, NH โ John Dalton, 55,ย was arrested Fridayย in connection with an April 4 car theft captured on surveillance video.
On April 10, at approximately 8:05 p.m. officers assigned to downtown patrol spoke with the manager of the Elm Street Shell Station (570 Elm St.) about a person of interest who entered the store and may have been responsible for an ย April 4 theft from a car.
According to the gas station manager, a manย in her store matched the description of a man caught on surveillance video during anย April 4ย theft. The manager told police sheย believedย the man who came into her store to be the same manย who had allegedly broken into a motor vehicle on April 4, 2015, so she contacted Manchester Police.
Aย security video showed a man allegedly breaking a window of a vehicle parked ย in a lot adjacent to Inner City Auto and the Shell Station and removing a purse. That theft happened between 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m.
Police identified the man in the video as Dalton.ย
Officers on scene gathered enough probable cause to arrest Dalton on felony theft charges. Dalton was taken into custody for theft from a motor vehicle. Heย was scheduled to appear in district court on April 13.
Manchester crime statistics show a 27 percent increase in thefts from motor vehicles compared to the same time frame in 2014. A large number of thefts have occurred in and around the downtown area, specifically near the Verizon Wireless Arena.
