Two people called police to report the dangerous behavior of the driver, then followed her until she pulled off the road.
MANCHESTER, NH – Two people ended up shepherding a woman to safety after she crashed her car into a police radar trailer on Calef Road, and then passed out behind the wheel of her car. She was revived by medics with Narcan after it was determined she was suffering from an apparent heroin overdose.
Jelena Novcic, 23, of Manchester, was charged May 7 with driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
According to a police narrative of the incident, two witnesses, Chuck Fritz, 51, and Jennifer O’Neil, 38, both of Manchester, called police to report they had observed a vehicle operating erratically while traveling north on Calef Road at around 6 p.m. on May 7.
Both Fritz and O’Neil told police that the woman driving, later identified as Novcic, was “all over the road” before striking a Manchester Police radar trailer, which was parked in front of 1369 Calef Road.
Novcic continued driving northbound on Calef Road after allegedly striking the radar trailer, which sustained heavy damage and may be a total loss. O’Neil drove behind Novcic and Fritz maintained a safe distance in front of her until she finally pulled over in front of the 575 Calef Road Fire House.
Shortly after stopping her vehicle, Novcic allegedly passed out and was unconscious when Manchester police arrived on scene. Novcic’s lips appeared to be discolored and she remained motionless and unresponsive to the officer’s questions. AMR arrived on scene and administered a dose of Narcan, which revived Novcic. Narcan is an opiate antagonist and reverses the effects of opiates.
Novcic was transported to Catholic Medical Center and issued a summons for operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol. She will appear in the 9th Circuit Court on May 21, 2015.
