Deadline is June 19 for the American Heart Association freeย 13-week BetterU challenge.
MANCHESTER, NHย โ Itโs extreme makeover time: heart edition. The American Heart Association announced today that they are seeking applicants for the fourth round of the Go Red BetterU Makeover Challenge.
BetterU is the American Heart Associationโs 13-week nutrition and fitness program that can make over your heart. Each week focuses on a different area of health and provides step-by-step guidance, challenges and goals. More than one hundred participants have graduated from the program including Heather Bishop from WZID and Matt Mowery of BusinessNH Magazine.
The program is sponsored by Catholic Medical Center and is delivered through the GENAVIX Wellness Networkโs 90 Day Commit To Get Fit program.
“The partnership between the Genavix Wellness Network and the American Heart Association has been very natural. ย Both organizations share the common goal to improve the overall well-being of individuals and families within our community,โ said Tricia Benton, Master Genavix Wellness Coach and Co-owner of The Executive Health & Sports Center. “We share an ambition to educate individuals in the Greater Manchester area to develop and implement strategies to reduce risk factors for disease and promote better health.”
A committee will choose applicants based on a variety of criteria. The participants will experience a 13-week heart-healthy makeover with a free membership package to the Executive Health & Sports Club. Each participant will take part in an initial wellness screening where height, weight, inches, blood pressure, cholesterol, HDL/LDL, triglycerides, body mass index, and blood glucose will be measured. Those same numbers will be measured at the end of the 13-week challenge and the women will be revealed at the Go Red for Women Luncheon on Thursday, October 15.
โItย can be hard to make lifestyle changes on your own,โ said Donna Dubuc, CMCโs Go Red for Women sponsorship spokesperson. โMany women have tried other approaches and been unable to achieve lasting changes in behavior and thinking. CMC is underwriting the BetterU challenge because it offers a combination of education, structure and support.ย We want women to join us for this program because we think it will make a difference.โ
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women. The BetterU Challenge not only encourages women to live a healthier lifestyle, it raises awareness about the importance of heart health. The application is available at Heart.org/NH. The deadline to apply is June 19.
