Clerk thwarts robbery with big stick; police seek public’s help in identifying suspect

MANCHESTER, NH โ€” Police are looking for a man who was chased from a convenience store by a clerk with a big stick, after the would-be robber claimed to be armed and threatenedย the clerk with violence for not handing over cash from the register.

Officer Amanda Smith was dispatched to Afshin Convenience Store, 570 Elm St., at about 7:50 p.m. Nov. 12 for an attempted robbery call.ย Upon arrival, Officer Smithย met with clerk Sasi Patibandla, 27, of Manchester, who said the incident began when a manย ย came to the check-out counter withย several items, and thenย demanded cash.

The would-be robberย claimed to be armed andย threatened the clerk, demanding heย empty the cash register. Undauntedย by the threat, Patibandla opted instead to grab a wooden stick and chase the manย from the store, empty-handed.ย He fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

The suspectย is described as a white male,ย 55-60 years of age, unknown height and weight. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the right chest, blue jeans and sneakers.
