MANCHESTER, NH – With just a few hours left on the radiothon clock, Kat Strange is getting a little nervous. Even though phones are ringing and online donations are steady, they are still about $40,000 shy of this year’s $200,000 Christmas is for Kids fundraising goal.
She’d like to at least top last year’s final tally, of about $188,000.
Money raised will be used in two ways, says Strange, Director of Communications for Child and Family Services — to make sure Christmas happens for children in the community who would otherwise miss out due to family circumstances, and to support the many programs and outreaches of Child and Family Services, which include services for infants all the way up to the elderly.
“We’re talking about critical and life-changing programs, the kinds of programs that help to make sure families don’t end up in crisis in the first place,” says Strange.
For the past 17 years WZID has dedicated air time to the two-day fundraiser, generating some buzz and enthusiasm with local sponsors coming on air to talk about the many ways donations make a difference in the community.
