CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Corrections is hiring Corrections Officers for all of its correctional facilities.  Sixteen Corrections Officer Trainees completed the application process, the screening and interview process, and the physical fitness test and will be participants in the 109th Corrections Academy starting on Monday, September 17, 2018.

The Corrections Academy provided by NH Police Standards and Training utilizes a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on training and simulated scenarios to prepare the employees to work in the specialized correctional environment each day.  It runs for nine weeks and will conclude with a graduation ceremony and the badging of the new Corrections Officers on November 16, 2018.

A correctional career requires a wide range of skills that are unique to the profession with many growth opportunities.  The officers will be certified in the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), verbal de-escalation skills, the use of force continuum, New Hampshire laws, and appropriate management and supervision of those in our custody.

Corrections officer trainees learn many other important abilities that can help them grow in their careers such as proficient communication skills, behavioral health services, suicide prevention, and other tools that are transferable to other divisions within the Department.  They can remain a uniformed officer for the length of their public service or they can seek out other exciting correctional careers in areas such as education, medical care and behavioral health, administration, Probation/Parole, and many more.

Academy classes are taught by senior members of the Department of Corrections staff, our own training staff, and staff from the Police Standards and Training Council.

Upon graduation the employees will report to their assignments at the Department’s correctional facilities in Concord and Berlin.
