PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Southern New Hampshire University Penmen left New York state with a win and a loss on Tuesday night against Pace.
SNHU’s loss came first as the women fell 90-79. The Penmen were behind for all but eight seconds of the contest, with Pace draining nine bombs from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y.) had four of those threes, leading the hosts with 28 points.
Senior Kylie Lorenzen (Holliston, Mass.) netted 21 points for SNHU while Penmen sophomore Gyanna Russell (E. Hampton, Conn.) added 14 to match her career high.
The men followed with an 81-78 victory, getting a career night from Manchester native Jon Martin.
His pair of free throws with 15 seconds left in the contest gave SNHU a two-possession lead, a lead they would not surrender.
Martin posted 18 points, a career high. He also had a quartet of three-pointers, as did Eamonn Joyce (Medford, Mass.), with Joyce’s 22 points leading the Penmen.
The win was the third straight for the men’s team, who have now won 11 of their last 12 against the Setters.
SNHU returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 12 against Southern Connecticut State University, with the women’s game at 1:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 3:30 p.m.
