MANCHESTER, N.H. – On Sunday morning, Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig and several of her volunteers prepared for another session of knocking on doors following a pep talk from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Klobuchar (D-MN) spoke out against Republican officials ranging from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu. However, she saved the majority of her invective for President Donald Trump.
“You’ve got to work on the challenges of your time. When you’re a leader, when you inherit a good situation or a bad one, you don’t sit there and gloat about something you didn’t do,” she said.
Conversely, Klobuchar praised Craig on her efforts to battle the opioid epidemic and to bring commuter rail to New Hampshire, citing that southern New Hampshire is the most densely populated area in the United States without direct access to a commuter rail system.
Several members of the audience have already chosen to support Klobuchar while others such as Sonia Prince of Nashua came to listen.
Sunday marked the third Klobuchar event that Prince has attended this year and her tenth overall. Currently Klobuchar is her first choice, followed by Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) and former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro.
Klobuchar has earned that spot in Prince’s opinion due to what she sees as legislative success and the ability to compromise without sacrificing core values, although she also holds Craig in high esteem at the local level.
“(Craig and Klobuchar), are two of the top leaders in the nation. They’re both strong-willed, decisive, they don’t hesitate to do what’s right,” she said.
