NASHUA, N.H. โ A key save from Carly Dedrick on a late penalty stroke helped Manchester Memorial preserve what became a 3-2 victory over Nashua South on Wednesday night.
The penalty came with just over 3:30 left in the contest, as a Memorial defender inadvertently blocked the ball with her foot, stopping what would have otherwise been a goal.
Amy Marison went to Dedrickโs right side with both teams anxiously watching, but Dedrick responded with a diving save, one of many on the evening.
โWe had that penalty stroke because we got a little bit messy,โ said Memorial Head Coach Meredith Doyle.ย โDedrick is so on her toes. She amps us up and saves like that keep us in this game.
Sydney Spenard provided Memorial with a pair of goals, including the tie-breaking goal in the second half, and Isabella Giampa picked up a goal and an assist.
Doyle would have liked more offense, crediting Southโs defense for holding her girls at bay for much of the contest.
Kirsten McIntire got both of Southโs goals prior to the half.
This marks Memorialโs second win in a row and their third in four games. Now at 4-6, theyโll seek to edge closer to .500 on Oct. 9 (4 p.m.) at Dover. South (2-8) also plays again next week, with Bishop Guertin coming up.
