Penmen post Saturday wins in volleyball, soccer and field hockey

It’s October 13, 2019. Here’s a update from the world of Southern New Hampshire University sports.

Menโ€™s Soccer

A late goal cut SNHUโ€™s lead in half, but American International couldnโ€™t find any more offense, giving the Penmen a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

Senior Michael Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.) finished the first half with SNHUโ€™s first goal and the other came from graduate student Alex Satrustegui (San Sebastian, Spain), his third of the year.

SNHU (4-4-2, 2-3-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 (1 p.m. against Le Moyne.


Womenโ€™s Soccer

The Penmen took a 2-1 victory on the road on Saturday against LeMoyne.

SNHUโ€™s goals both came in the first half, with sophomore Dorthea Glorud (Brumddal, Norway) and senior Emily Roan (Bridgewater, Mass.) doing the honors.

The Penmen (8-3-0, 5-3-0 NE-10) is now 11-0-2 in its last 13 matches at Le Moyne during the regular season. SNHU returns to the field next Saturday at 4 p.m. against Assumption.


Field Hockey

An overtime goal from senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) broke the deadlock as the ninth-ranked Penmen took a 2-1 victory over Saint Thomas on Saturday.

The other two goals came in the first quarter, with sophomore Emily Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) getting SNHUโ€™s other goal.

Southern New Hampshire (9-3, 6-2 NE-10) returns to Larkin Field on Monday (October 14) when it hosts Molloy College in a Northeast-10 Conference clash at 1 p.m.


Womenโ€™s Volleyball

The womenโ€™s volleyball team took a straight set victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.

Senior Baylee Lippincott (Phoenix, Ariz) registered a season-high 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage, with freshman Grace Pierce (Fairfax, Va.) doing even better with a ย .583 hitting percentage on her way to seven kills in the contest.

The Penmen (8-7, 1-2 NE-10) are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 15 (7 p.m.) when they play host to crosstown-rival Saint Anselm College at the Stan Spirou Field House.
