Here’s another recap from what’s been going on lately in Saint Anselm College sports.

Field Hockey

A hat trick from senior Hannah Friend (North Easton, Mass.) was key for the fifth-ranked Hawks as they posted a 4-0 victory at home over Mercy (N.Y.) College on Wednesday.

Friend now has six hat tricks on her career, with the other Saint Anselm goal coming from sophomore Emilie Martin (Yarmouth, Maine)

In addition to the goals, Saint Anselm also won thanks to their defense, which did not allow a single shot on goal during the contest.

The Hawks climb to 13-2 and 10-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play, they play next against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.

Men’s Soccer

There was just one goal on Wednesday afternoon in this contest, but it didn’t go the Hawks’ way, with LeMoyne grabbing a 1-0 victory.

Graduate Student Goran Naric (Neuwied, Germany) got that goal in the 17th minute, with senior goalkeeper Jacob Rostkowski (Rockport, Mass.) stopping the Dolphins’ other four shots on goal.

The Hawks (6-7, 2-7 Northeast-10) return back to the Hilltop on Saturday, Oct. 26 for an 11 a.m. matchup against second-ranked Adelphi.

Women’s Basketball

The men’s basketball team is expected to do well this season, and the women look to be strong as well if last Thursday’s news is any indication.

In the latest Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, Saint Anselm received 83 points and eight first-place votes in the Northeast Division.

Last year, the Hawks finished with a 22-10 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
