CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Supreme Court announces the temporary closure of the John W. King Law Library starting on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 due to asbestos removal and abatement.
The Law Library – the state’s only public law library– is expected to be closed to foot traffic for approximately 4 weeks.
During this time, librarians will be available by phone (603) 271-3777, email (lawlibrary@courts.state.nh.us), or mail to answer reference questions from the public. The public is also encouraged to email the Law Library with document requests.
The book stacks will be completely inaccessible so no borrowing or Interlibrary Loan requests can be accepted. “We will move the most frequently requested books like the New Hampshire Practice Series out of the library so users will still be able to borrow a limited selection of titles,” said Law Librarian Mary Searles.
The Law Library’s public access computers will be inaccessible. However, the Westlaw legal research database will be available for public use at four public libraries: Derry, Littleton, Portsmouth, and Dover. Users must have Westlaw access or sign up for Westlaw Patron Remote for Pro Se/Non-Attorneys.
