CANTERBURY, NH โ€” Canterbury Shaker Village has received two challenge gifts that will each match up to $5,000 in donations to its Annual Fund appeal from new donors. Matches from new donors will be capped at $500 per individual contribution.

โ€œThis wonderful opportunity encourages people who have yet to give to the Village this holiday season a chance to become involved,โ€ noted Education Manager Kyle Sandler, who indicated both donors wish to remain anonymous. โ€œItโ€™s a chance for new donors to make twice the impact.โ€

Annual funds typically cover day-to-day operating expenses for nonprofit organizations, such as salaries, utilities, building maintenance, and administrative costs. โ€œThe Villageโ€™s Annual Fund provides a reliable source of income needed to ensure we can sustain activities throughout the year,โ€ added Sandler.

These activities remind visitors of not just a shared past, but what โ€œwe would like to be as individuals today,โ€ according to Juliana Phillips, longtime Village Corporator and Trustee. โ€œThe Shakers embodied gender and racial equity, pacifism, and sustainabilityโ€”radical concepts for that time,โ€ she said.

Featuring 694 acres of forests, fields, gardens, nature trails, and mill ponds under permanent conservation easement, the Village is designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Villageโ€™s extensive nature trail system is free and open year-round. To support the Annual Fund or learn more about the Village, visit shakers.org.

Canterbury Shaker Village is a member of the NH Heritage Museum Trail, which connects the public with culturally rich heritage institutions in New Hampshire. For more information about The Trail, visitย nhmuseumtrail.org.
