Manchester woman’s Maine death believed to be drowning

MANCHESTER, NH – The death of a Manchester woman who was pulled unconscious from  Maine’s Sebago Lake Wednesday morning is being investigated, but the sheriff’s department said it’s a likely drowning.

The woman, 41, whose name has not been released, was found unconscious in the water around 11:30 a.m. and was retrieved from the water by first responders, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office, Sebago EMS, and the Maine Warden Service responded to the scene.

First responders performed life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. She was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta, which will determine an official cause of death, the sheriff’s office said. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division is also investigating.

The incident happened in the town of Sebago, on private property off Sokokis Road in North Sebago, WMTW-TV reported.

Sebago Lake, Maine’s second-largest, is in southwestern Maine, about 30 miles northwest of Portland. It’s a popular vacation spot for visitors from around New England and is about 100 miles from Manchester.
