LEBANON, NH – An exhibit, Different Roots, Common Dreams: New Hampshire’s Cultural Diversity, coming in 2026 to Dartmouth Health features more than 30 color photographs by New Hampshire photographer Becky Field, who has been documenting the lives of our state’s immigrant and refugee communities since 2012.

In a state known for low cultural diversity, Field uses her camera to illustrate and honor the lives of New Hampshire’s immigrants. She has been welcomed into their homes and has photographed families, children at play, workplaces, and traditional and sacred ceremonies.

Field has published two award winning books from this project, Different Roots, Common Dreams: New Hampshire’s Cultural Diversity (2015, Peter Randall Publisher), and Finding Home: Portraits and Memories of Immigrants (2020, Peter Randall Publisher). In 2017, Field partnered with the NH Charitable Foundation to start the Different Roots, Common Dreams Scholarship Fund, which has helped many immigrants to complete a four-year undergraduate degree.

At the exhibit’s opening reception on Tuesday, January 13, 4:30 p.m., Field will talk about her work. Other local organizations will share resources for immigrant and refugees living in the Upper Valley. Her books can be purchased at the reception; all net proceeds of her book sales go to NH nonprofit organizations that help refugees and asylum seekers. The reception and the exhibit are free, accessible and open to the public.

The photographs will be on view in the Williamson Gallery, 1 Medical Center Dr, Lebanon, NH, from January 4 to March 31, 2026. This work and the exhibit are supported by the International Employee Resource Group and Arts & Humanities Department at Dartmouth Health, the NH State Council on the Arts, and a generous donor.

Field completed a Certificate in Photography from the NH Institute of Art (now Institute of Art and Design at New England College) and has studied photography throughout the Northeast. In past work she was a federal research ecologist and university professor; she holds a doctoral degree in wildlife ecology.
