DUNBARTON, NH โ€“ A Maine man wanted in connection with a Jan. 14 homicide there was taken into custody by the New Hampshire State Police Saturday morning following a multi-state pursuit.

Dane Burke, 55, of Skowhegan, Maine, faces charges in both Maine and Massachusetts, and has been charged by the New Hampshire State Police as a fugitive from justice. A police narrative follows:

Around 8:30 a.m. Jan. 17, 2026, State Troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks received information that officers with the Lowell Police Department were pursuing a vehicle on Interstate 93 northbound headed toward New Hampshire. While responding, Troopers received additional information that the suspected driver, Burke, was wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Skowhegan, Maine. Troopers then joined the pursuit as the vehicle, a 2018 silver Jeep Compass, crossed the state line in Salem.

According to a Maine Department of Public Safety Nicole Jackson, 46, was found dead at a residence on West Front Street after a 911 call at 11:37 p.m. for a person not breathing.

According to police Burke refused to stop, and the pursuit continued onto parts of I-93, I-293, Route 101, and Route 114 before the Jeep ultimately went off the road and crashed into a tree on Route 13 in Dunbarton. Additional Troopers responded to the scene as the Jeep was surrounded.

Nonlethal munitions were ultimately deployed before Burke was taken into custody. He was transported by ambulance, with a police escort, to an area hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries and remains under law enforcement supervision. The Jeep was also seized as evidence in connection with the homicide investigation in Maine.

Additional charges will be filed in connection with the pursuit.ย  No court date has been scheduled at this time; however, Burke is expected to be held in custody in the State of New Hampshire pending extradition.
