MANCHESTER, NH — Catholic Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, announced a $27 million capital investment to support critical infrastructure upgrades at the hospital, bringing the organization’s total committed investment in the facility to approximately $157 million.
The multi-year infrastructure investment will be deployed over a five-year period and is designed to modernize key facility systems, improve energy efficiency and ensure compliance with evolving healthcare standards.
Catholic Medical Center, which joined HCA Healthcare in February 2025, will benefit from a comprehensive set of infrastructure improvements addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainability. The initiative includes upgrades to electrical systems, HVAC and mechanical infrastructure, elevator modernization, fire safety enhancements and critical building systems.
“This continued investment underscores our strong commitment to Catholic Medical Center and the Manchester community,” said John Skevington, CEO of CMC. “Reaching a total of $157 million in committed capital reflects our focus on strengthening the hospital’s foundation and ensuring it can deliver high-quality, patient-centered care for years to come.”
Key components of the infrastructure investment include:
- Electrical system upgrades to meet code requirements and improve reliability
- Modernization of eight hospital elevators
- Replacement and enhancement of HVAC and energy systems
- Fire safety improvements, including sprinkler system expansion and high-rise compliance upgrades
- Building envelope improvements such as window and roof replacements
- Parking garage, pavement, and facility access improvements
- Expansion of patient care systems
As part of this investment, CMC will expand its pneumatic tube system to reach additional departments across the hospital. This system enables the rapid transport of lab specimens, medications and other critical materials between clinical areas. By extending the system to six new stations, the hospital will reduce turnaround times for lab results, accelerate medication delivery and improve care coordination — allowing clinicians to spend more time with patients and less time transporting materials.
The phased approach prioritizes the most urgent infrastructure needs in the first year, with approximately $10.9 million allocated upfront, followed by continued investments over subsequent years.
“These upgrades are essential to supporting the delivery of high-quality care,” said Skevington. “This investment allows us to address longstanding infrastructure needs while enhancing the patient experience and supporting our clinical teams.”
The project scope has been carefully evaluated to align with the hospital’s current and future operational needs, ensuring that Catholic Medical Center remains a leading healthcare provider in southern New Hampshire.
