CONCORD, NH – New Hampshire Secretary of State David M. Scanlan reminds voters that the deadline to change their party affiliation before the State Primary Election is June 2, 2026.

Registered voters who want to change their party affiliation should visit their local town/city clerk’s office before the deadline. After June 2, voters who are registered Democrats will only be able to vote in the Democratic State Primary. Voters who are registered Republicans will only be able to vote in the Republican State Primary. Undeclared voters have a choice of which party primary to vote in.

Checking voter registration information

Anyone who is unsure of their party affiliation can check their voter registration information on the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Lookup page at app.sos.nh.gov. Voters can also use this website to find their local town/city clerk’s information, polling location, and sample ballots when they are available.

If an undeclared voter participated in a recent primary election, they should check their party affiliation to make sure it is correct. Once an undeclared voter chooses their ballot on election day, they become a registered member of that party. After casting their ballot, they can switch back to undeclared before leaving the polling place.

Registering to vote

Qualified individuals can register to vote at their local clerk’s office or a local supervisor of the checklist meeting. Supervisors of the checklist are required to hold their mandatory meeting between 6 and 13 days before the State Primary Election. Alternatively, individuals can register at the polls on election day or by absentee if they qualify.

The State Primary Election will take place on September 8, 2026.
