Call for Volunteers: Join Manchester NAACP Legal Redress Committee

MANCHESTER, NH – At a time when civil rights protections, fair housing, voting access, workplace equity, immigrant rights, and equal treatment under the law continue to face challenges across the country, the Manchester NAACP is seeking committed volunteers to serve on its Legal Redress Committee.

The Manchester branch, established in 1964, has long worked to advance justice and equal opportunity in the Queen City and throughout New Hampshire. The branch states its mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand civil and human rights, eliminate discrimination, and improve the well-being and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.

The Legal Redress Committee plays a vital role within the NAACP’s structure. This committee helps address complaints of discrimination, reviews civil rights concerns, supports advocacy efforts, and connects residents with resources when they believe they have been unfairly treated in areas such as housing, education, employment, public accommodations, or interactions with institutions.

Why now? Because the need is real. Communities across the nation are navigating renewed debates over civil liberties, equal access, due process, racial equity, and democratic participation. Local leadership matters more than ever. Real change often begins when ordinary people decide not to stay silent.

Who should apply? The branch is encouraging interest from:

  • Attorneys and legal professionals
  • Retired judges or paralegals
  • Human resource professionals
  • Educators and policy advocates
  • Community organizers
  • College students pursuing law or public policy
  • Residents with a passion for fairness and justice

You do not need to be a lawyer to serve. The committee also needs researchers, communicators, organizers, listeners, and people willing to learn and work.

What volunteers would do:

  • Review community concerns and civil rights complaints
  • Help identify patterns of inequity or discrimination
  • Support outreach and education efforts
  • Assist with referrals to appropriate agencies or counsel
  • Contribute to policy advocacy and systemic reform efforts
  • Strengthen trust between impacted communities and institutions

This committee is for people ready to do something about it.

The Manchester NAACP continues its work through advocacy, education, coalition building, and community leadership. Volunteers who join the Legal Redress Committee will help ensure that civil rights are protected not just in principle, but in practice.
