With the demise of Minuteman Health at the end of the 2017, two insurance co-ops had now exited the market leaving Anthem, which absorbed much of the former Minuteman book of business, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Ambetter as carriers on the state’s health insurance marketplace in 2018.
More than 200 leaders from across the state converged on Southern New Hampshire University’s Mara Hall on March 28 for a Dartmouth-Hitchcock hosted forum entitled The Real Cost To Business: The Mental Health and Addiction Crisis.
Doug Dean spoke with Medical Matters recently on a number of topics, among them the current combination agreement with Southern New Hampshire Health trends in health care in the state, the growing health care needs of NH’s aging population and the failed Optima Healthcare merger in the late 1990s.
“When people ask me what a ‘typical’ day is, I really don’t have an answer for that,” said Tim Soucy, Public Health Director. “We’re a 24-7, 365-day-a-year operation. We all wear multiple hats. I will go from talking to U.S. Senators to picking up needles in the street to engaging the public on key issues during one day.”
Local business leaders, public health officials, advocacy groups, community members and elected officials gathered Monday to discuss Senate Bill 313, a legislative proposal aimed at continuing the state’s Medicaid Expansion effort beyond 2018.
