On May 2 the House voted 170-159 to take up the House Finance Committee’s recommendation to send the school voucher bill, SB 193, to interim study.
“Today, inclusion and love won. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am proud of the broad coalition that worked the finally get this bill to Governor Sununu’s desk, but I am equally disappointed 10 Republicans voted against this bill,” said Manchester activist Josh Query, following the vote.
Opponents of the bill say it amounts to a post-election poll tax that will disproportionately impact citizens including snow birds and medical residents, and especially the state’s college students.
Mayor Joyce Craig spoke about upcoming planning for city neighborhoods, including a creative arts district.
Several bills passed in the House and Senate Thursday earned kudos from Gov. Sununu.
On April 26 the bill will go for a full floor vote before the legislature, despite a non-binding “nay” vote by the committees that considered it.

The House passed the bill in January with strong bipartisan support. Governor Chris Sununu had pledged to support the bill during his campaign, but has turned against it this month.
