Bartenders are some of this reporter’s favorite people. They’re friends, pharmacists, psychiatrists, DJs, and sometimes fight referees all wrapped up into one. This week I learned that sometimes they don a cape and do outstanding work for the community as well.Â
This past Friday I was privileged to learn a couple of fun facts about New Hampshire that truly surprised me. Did you know that the world’s preeminent expert on all things J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings founded a university on the subject that, though entirely virtual, is based in Hollis? Or that there is a world-class, state-of-the-art motion picture studio in Derry? Â
The perks of being an Atlas member of Manchester Ink Link are plentiful. Along with the ‘feel-good’ factor that comes with supporting local independent journalism, you get to donate ad space to the nonprofit of your choice, and there are plentiful other perks, like surprise gift cards, VIP-only events, and discounts at local businesses. This past weekend my membership included a pass to the New Hampshire Film Festival – its 20th anniversary! Â
At least be honest in your greed. You pretend maintaining a starvation wage is great for all when the only people it benefits are wealthy restaurant owners. The rest of us are thrown under the bus.
