    Free youth day programs will be offered again this summer at the Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness. These programs give boys and girls ages 10–15 the chance to learn about shooting sports, bowhunting, and other outdoor skills. Sessions will be offered in July and August at Owl Brook, which is operated by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

    Wildlife biologists need help from volunteers who have bats in their barn or other outbuilding to conduct bat counts this summer as part of the New Hampshire Bat Counts project to help monitor bat colonies in the Granite State. It’s easy to participate, and volunteers are asked to conduct at least one count in June and one count in July.

    The New Hampshire Partnership for Schoolyard Action is now accepting grant applications from educational organizations with students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 to help fund nature-based learning projects. Schoolyard Action Grant applications are being accepted now through January 26, 2024.

    Given recent declining trends in the number of landlocked salmon available in Lake Winnipesaukee, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (NHFG) and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have agreed to cancel next year’s (2024) “Winni Derby.” Currently sponsored by the BSA, the “Winni Derby,” an entry-fee-based tournament typically held each May, targets landlocked salmon as the primary species with regard to prize structure.
