It may be the season of love and romance, but this February state officials are warning residents to be on the lookout for romance scams.  A romance scam occurs when a scammer forms a romantic relationship with a victim online or over the telephone and then attempts to obtain money or personal identifying information from the victim.

This charge alleges that between  December 2019 and June 2021, Kayla Montgomery obtained over $1,500 in food stamp benefits  by failing to remove Harmony Montgomery from Kayla’s family account with NH DHHS  Division of Family Assistance, and continuing to collect food stamp benefits for Harmony,  despite the fact that Harmony was no longer living with Kayla and Kayla’s husband, Adam  Montgomery.

Adam Montgomery,  31, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was arrested on January 4, 2022, in Manchester. Montgomery’s arrest was pursuant to an arrest warrant for one charge of felony second-degree assault arising from 2019 conduct against Harmony Montgomery, age 7, as well as one misdemeanor charge of interference with custody, and two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child pertaining to Harmony Montgomery.
