The city has launched a Homeless Initiatives website that is centered on HOPE – an acronym for Housing Opens Promote Empowerment.
While there is overwhelming support for affordable housing and rapid permitting of proposed housing developments, according to a statewide poll conducted by the Saint Anselm College Center for Ethics in Society, many communities are still putting up roadblocks to such development.
It appears that the city officials continually override the tax cap and then they need more money so they tax us more. Then people blame the evil landlords who are taking advantage of the poor. I can’t afford to give out free apartments and I tell my tenants that when the city cuts me a break on my taxes I will do the same for them with their rent.
It should come as no surprise that there were 800 applicants for the 30 new homes, since the going rate was $5.50 a week — no down payment — and to be on the safe side, the association also covered the cost of a $3,000 insurance policy on the man of the house “in order to safeguard widow and children in the event that calamity befall the breadwinner before the house is fully cleared.”
