It’s anticipated that tonight’s presentation by Director of Housing Stability Adrienne Beloin during the Nov. 21 Board of Aldermen meeting will show that the pathway is slow-going and filled with all sorts of tangible challenges. The board earlier this year approved maintaining the shelter through June of 2024 with funding for the engagement center to come from the initial $1.14 million Fiscal Year 2023 money allocated to the shelter.

Following last week’s election, Manchester elected a new mayor and also saw the election of several new aldermen. Although the Board of Mayor and Aldermen is officially non-partisan, there has always been an unofficial partisan influence in Manchester’s municipal politics and the new board has an assumed new balance of seven Democrats and seven Republicans. It’s the position of the National Association of Medical Examiners that all overdose deaths should be autopsied. Specifically, the organization says that “external examination is an inadequate substitute for autopsy for the purposes of detecting and certifying drug-caused deaths.”

Expenses eligible for reimbursement can include those related to a facility’s physical space, such as long-term mortgage or lease payments; building maintenance, repairs, or renovations; and the creation or expansion of outdoor spaces. Programs and services necessary to operate the childcare business may also be reimbursable under the grant, including payroll or bookkeeping software, training and support services, or materials for play and learning.

This week, members of the Executive Council voted to approve $9,789,398 in additional funding for The Doorways program. Launched in 2019, The Doorway transforms New Hampshire’s treatment and recovery approach to helping individuals with an opioid use disorder or other substance use disorder.
