Governor Maggie Hassan will join Department of Safety Commissioner John Barthelmes, Attorney General Joe Foster, Manchester Police Chief Nick Willard and other local officials Oct. 1 to announce two state substance abuse grants that will help support efforts to combat the heroin and opioid crisis in high-risk communities like Manchester.

Citing the strong possibility for underage consumption of alcohol, along with potential liability issues for restaurant and lounge owners, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission (NHLC) has issued an order banning the sale of powdered alcohol in New Hampshire and preventing the product from being shipped into the state.

Gov. Maggie Hassan signed HB 225 into law on Aug. 1. The bill was proposed after Seth Mazzaglia, 33, convicted of brutally murdering and raping 19-year-old Lizzy Marriott, asked not to attend the sentencing because he didn’t want to hear the victim’s family “yell and whine and bitch and moan.”
