The number of new births in New Hampshire seems to reflect these anxieties. In December of 2020, nine months after the state’s first stay-at-home order was announced, there were about 180 fewer births than the same period in 2019 and at least 100 fewer than any year since 2015, according to data from the NH Vital Records Information Network. These numbers may change as data is updated.

We chose Firefly American Bistro at 22 Concord St. We’ve eaten there before and have always enjoyed the ambiance as well as the food.  We wondered how a winter drive-thru experience would compare. The menu appealed to us as did the promise of curbside pickup. Of note, they offer free delivery within 8 miles of the restaurant with a $50+ purchase but we wanted an excuse to get out even if it were just for cruising a short stint down Elm Street.

During the amateur hour, in 1934, on a dare, a  homeless girl, in a dirty dress, took the stage at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Originally she had planned to dance as her performance, but after realizing she was no competition for the dancing duo of The Edward Sisters, she decided instead to sing, unknowingly catapulting herself into a life-altering trajectory. That night she silenced the packed 1500-seat theatre. The rest, as they say, is history.
