The New Hampshire Jewish Film Festival this year is delighted to offer its audiences a choice between virtual and in- screenings as it brings its international lineup to theaters in Concord, Keene, Manchester and Portsmouth, The festival which will screen independent and foreign films from 12 countries from March 31 through April 10, includes selections from Belarus, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

GSM and The Bookery on Elm Street, a treasure to the Queen City, no doubt one of its finest births, are teaming up to record live shows once a month right inside the doors of the bookstore.  I’ve listened to writers read their works at The Bookery, musicians play as well, and between the coffee and wine and shelves of books and the cool aesthetics of the entire store, it’s a perfect place to have people sit in the audience, nurse a drink and watch it all play out before your eyes.  And it’s FREE.

Starting this weekend, the SEE Science Center in Manchester is hosting a number of workshop activities and opening of a new art exhibit to celebrate the legacy of Ralph Baer, the German-immigrant-turned-New-Hampshire-inventor who created the first home video game systems among many other things.

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the 20th century’s most prolific and consequential inventors.  It was on this day that Ralph Henry Baer was born in Pirmasens, Germany. Baer would go on to create a host of electronic devices, toys, and gadgets. None, however, would be bigger than his seminal conceptualization and work around what was to become the modern video game industry.
